Yemen’s Saudi-backed presidential leadership council accepted Prime Minister Salem bin Breik’s resignation and appointed Foreign Minister Shaya Mohsin al-Zindani as the new prime minister, tasking him with forming the next cabinet. The council dismissed Faraj Salmeen Al-Bahsani from the Presidential Leadership Council and later appointed Mahmoud al-Subaihi and Salem al-Khanbashi to replace Aidarous al-Zubaidi and Bahsani. The Southern Transitional Council gained control of areas across southern and eastern Yemen in December, and Saudi-backed fighters have largely retaken those areas.
