Indian Railways has introduced an automatic lower berth allocation system for senior citizens and women aged 45 and above, as announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. This system ensures that these passengers receive lower berths based on availability, even if they do not select this option during booking. The initiative includes a reserved quota of lower berths in various classes of trains for senior citizens, women, and persons with disabilities. Additionally, new train designs feature enhanced accessibility, such as wider doors, larger lavatories, and facilities for visually impaired travelers. These improvements aim to provide a safer and more comfortable travel experience for vulnerable groups.
