Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney, resigned on Sunday, saying the decision to appoint Peter Mandelson as UK ambassador to the United States was wrong.

McSweeney said he had advised Starmer to make the Mandelson appointment and took responsibility for that advice. The resignation followed the release of additional US Department of Justice documents and photos related to Jeffrey Epstein that reportedly detailed Mandelson’s relationship with Epstein, and came after Labour MPs called for McSweeney to step down.
