Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged the Union government to approve the establishment of an Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) in Telangana to strengthen professional driver training and road safety. He said Telangana’s Electric Vehicle Policy (GO No. 41, introduced in November 2024) helped electric vehicles reach 2.58 lakh by 2025, and the State has targets of 100% EV adoption within the Outer Ring Road and 25% outside it. The State plans to convert RTC buses operating within the ORR into fully electric buses, then convert taxis, auto-rickshaws, and other commercial vehicles. Telangana also plans Automated Testing Stations and the use of AI, ANPR cameras, and automated systems to strengthen enforcement and streamline licensing and registration services.
