Police said at least 14 Maoists, including six women, were killed in two separate encounters in Sukma and Bijapur districts of Chhattisgarh on January 3, 2026. A senior police officer said security forces launched simultaneous operations based on credible information about the presence of armed Maoists in southern areas of the two districts. Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said bodies of 12 Maoists were recovered along with weapons including AK 47, INSAS and SLR rifles. Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Yadav said bodies of two Maoist commanders were recovered and each carried a reward of ₹5 lakh.
