Six-year-old Shahnaz Khatun, daughter of migrant labourer Inzamam Sheikh from West Bengal, was found dead in a drain hours after she went missing on January 5 in Whitefield. Police said the child was strangled and said accused Yusuf Meer, a migrant labourer from West Bengal living in the same neighbourhood, was arrested in Odisha after attempting to flee with his family. Investigators said Meer had earlier quarrelled with the girl’s mother and allegedly kidnapped and killed the child while she was playing outside her house. Police invoked the POCSO Act after fresh evidence on motive, and said they were awaiting an FSL report to corroborate evidence collected during the investigation.
