The parliamentary standing committee on coal, mines, and steel has urged Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) to establish uniform safety protocols for all workers, including contract employees. This recommendation comes after a review of SAIL's organizational structure and performance, led by Lok Sabha member Anurag Singh Thakur. The committee emphasized that SAIL's expansion and operational efficiency must meet international benchmarks to compete effectively with private sector products. Key issues discussed included labor welfare, safety practices, and compliance with new labor laws that consolidate 29 previous laws into four comprehensive codes. SAIL's financial performance has shown improvement, with a reported net profit increase and revenue growth driven by higher sales volumes, despite pricing challenges.
