A What happened
Farhad N, 25, went on trial in Germany charged with driving his BMW Mini into a trade union demonstration in central Munich on 13 February 2025. A 37-year-old woman, Amel, and her two-year-old daughter, Hafsa, died in hospital of their injuries, and 44 other people were hurt, including some critically. Federal prosecutors said they believe he acted out of excessive religious motivation and believed he was obliged to attack and kill randomly selected people in Germany because of the suffering of Muslims in Islamic countries. Authorities said he was legally resident in Germany, had no previous convictions, and was arrested on the day of the attack.
