MoPNG designates PPAC to collect fuel stocks data
Change
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued a gazette notification designating the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell as the nodal agency to collect, compile and analyse detailed domestic petroleum and natural gas data.
Why it matters
PPAC is formally designated as the nodal agency to collect, compile and analyse information on petroleum products and natural gas. Specified entities, including producers and refiners, must furnish data on production, imports, exports, stocks, storage, allocation, transportation, consumption, supply and utilisation, aggregated or disaggregated by geography, time or consumer categories as specified. The gazette notification was issued on March 19, 2026. A Ministry joint secretary said the objective is to give PPAC’s existing mandate legal strength to improve implementability.
Implications
- · Mandatory reporting increases compliance and data-submission duties for producers, refiners and other specified entities.
