MoPNG designates PPAC to collect fuel stocks data
Why it matters
PPAC is formally designated as the nodal agency to collect, compile and analyse information on petroleum products and natural gas. Specified entities, including producers and refiners, must furnish data on production, imports, exports, stocks, storage, allocation, transportation, consumption, supply and utilisation, aggregated or disaggregated by geography, time or consumer categories as specified. The gazette notification was issued on March 19, 2026. A Ministry joint secretary said the objective is to give PPAC’s existing mandate legal strength to improve implementability.
Implications
  • · Mandatory reporting increases compliance and data-submission duties for producers, refiners and other specified entities.
  • · Central government access to consolidated, disaggregated data on petroleum and natural gas stocks and flows.
  • · Affected firms may need to modify internal data collection and reporting systems to meet aggregation and disaggregation specifications.
Who is affected
  • · Producers and refiners
  • · Storage and terminal operators
  • · Transporters and distributors
  • · Energy data and compliance teams
