Jean Beasley, who passed away on December 2, 2025, at the age of 90, was a dedicated advocate for sea turtle conservation. After her daughter Karen's death in 1991, Beasley committed to fulfilling her daughter's wish to help sea turtles. She founded the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in North Carolina, which grew from a small facility into a 13,000-square-foot hospital. Over her decades of work, Beasley helped protect more than 3,000 turtle nests and rehabilitated at least 1,600 turtles. She emphasized the importance of education, believing that inspiring children to care for the ocean could lead to broader conservation efforts. Beasley's influence extended beyond turtle rescue; she trained future wildlife professionals and engaged the public in ocean conservation. Her legacy is evident in the many turtles returned to the sea and the generations of children she inspired to protect the environment.
