Iranian officials were disinvited from the Munich Security Conference. A conference spokesman said invitations had been extended to individual Iranian government representatives several weeks earlier and would not be maintained in light of current events. Germany’s Foreign Office warned against inviting Iranian officials and said participation was inappropriate because of the bloody suppression of protests. The protests were triggered by a dramatic economic crisis, very high inflation, and widespread dissatisfaction with Iran’s leadership, and thousands of deaths were reported.
