On October 25, 2025, Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli, a 28-year-old Indian national, allegedly attacked two 17-year-old male passengers on a Lufthansa flight traveling from Chicago to Germany. According to charging documents, Usiripalli used a metal fork to stab one teen in the shoulder and another in the back of the head, causing a laceration. Following the incident, the flight was diverted to Boston Logan International Airport for safety reasons. Usiripalli has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon while traveling on an aircraft, facing a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison. The accused reportedly displayed erratic behavior, including forming a gun with his fingers and attempting to slap a female passenger and a flight crew member. He is currently in the U.S. without lawful status, having previously entered on a student visa.
