The Government of Andhra Pradesh has initiated a significant legal reform by constituting a Group of Ministers (GoM) to finalize the State Litigation Policy for the year 2025. This policy aims to curb unnecessary litigation and bolster dispute resolution strategies to bring about enhanced accountability and transparency within the state's legal framework. The GoM comprises ministers responsible for law and justice, revenue, home affairs, food and civil supplies, and health sectors, moderated by the Secretary of the Law Department. Their remit includes a thorough review of existing litigation trends, recommendations to curtail avoidable legal actions, and the promotion of Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms including mediation, arbitration, and Lok Adalats. Furthermore, the committee will seek to implement international best practices and improve oversight on officials managing legal affairs. Once finalized, these measures are anticipated to reduce the caseload burden on courts, increase governance efficiency, and accelerate public service delivery across Andhra Pradesh.
