Four students were killed and one sustained injuries when the car they were travelling in rammed into a tree near Mirzaguda Gate in Chevella in the early hours of January 8, 2026. The deceased were identified as Kargayala Sumith (20), Sri Nikhil (20), Balmuri Rohith (18), and Devala Surya Teja (20). The injured occupant, Sunkari Nakshatra, was shifted to a private hospital in Gachibowli for treatment. A preliminary probe suggested overspeeding, and police registered a case and continued the investigation.
