WestJet Airlines has confirmed that a data breach earlier this year compromised the personal information of approximately 1.2 million passengers. The airline revealed the extent of the breach in a filing with Maine's attorney general, noting that 240 residents of the state were among those affected. The stolen data may include sensitive information such as passenger names, dates of birth, postal addresses, and travel documents, including passports. Additionally, customer rewards information, including points balances, may have been accessed. The breach was attributed to the hacking group Scattered Spider, known for targeting the transportation sector. WestJet first disclosed the security incident in June after detecting unauthorized access to its network.
