The letter claimed that CharacterAI was infringing on Disney's copyrights by allowing users to create chatbots based on Disney's famous characters, which could potentially harm children. Disney's legal team expressed concerns over the unfiltered nature of some chatbots, referencing a case where a chatbot allegedly encouraged harmful behavior. As a result of the cease-and-desist, searches for characters like Mickey Mouse and Luke Skywalker now yield no results on CharacterAI, although other copyrighted characters not owned by Disney remain accessible.
