The Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes announced that over 400,000 individuals abstained from the Social and Educational Survey-2025, which concluded recently. In response, the commission will rely on secondary data to assess the employment, education, and economic conditions of the non-participants. Commission chairman Madhusudan Naik emphasized that non-participation should not be assumed to create data gaps, arguing that many individuals from major communities also face economic hardships. The survey aimed to cover approximately 6.13 crore people in the state, but reports indicated that many households were locked or refused to participate, influenced by public statements against the survey. The commission has extended the opportunity for online participation until November 10, aiming to gather more comprehensive data for policy-making.
