These sites, known for their 'nudify' services, had been receiving about 100,000 visits monthly from Australians and were involved in serious cases of AI-generated abuse imagery. The Commissioner highlighted the harmful effects these services had on school environments, noting that they marketed features allowing users to undress images of real people, including schoolgirls. Following a formal warning in September, the sites withdrew from Australia to avoid civil penalties. Additionally, Hugging Face, a platform for AI models, has updated its terms of service to comply with Australian laws. Australia is actively working to prevent online child exploitation, including banning social media for users under 16 and addressing deepfake technology.
