The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a significant step to modernize the Godavari Delta by approving ₹13.4 crore for a LiDAR survey, announced in a review meeting held in December 2025. This survey is part of a broader effort to improve flood mitigation, upgrade irrigation systems, and restore the delta's agricultural productivity. Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu underlined the importance of completing the survey promptly to move forward with modernisation works. He praised the current administration led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for previously sanctioning ₹150 crore to install new gates at the Dowleswaram Barrage—an essential component of sustainable water management in the region. The minister also criticized the prior YSRCP administration for neglecting modernization projects despite available funds, resulting in incomplete works, damage to the delta, and adverse effects on farmers—including crop losses and increased reliance on second crops rather than primary ones. Agencies involved have been instructed to submit a detailed project report by December that will address flood mitigation, lock and gate repairs, drainage desilting, and strengthening of weirs. This initiative reflects a focused governmental effort to bolster infrastructure resilience, protect livelihoods, and improve agricultural productivity in the Godavari Delta system. The review meeting included top officials and representatives from relevant agencies to coordinate these modernization actions.
