The Andhra Pradesh government conducted a review meeting in December 2025 to evaluate two key urban policy reform initiatives under a Working Group collaboration with the School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada. The reforms focus on an alternative Transferable Development Rights (TDR) policy framework designed to better reflect market dynamics and support urban infrastructure growth. Concurrently, a comprehensive drainage and flood-mitigation strategy for coastal cities aims to enhance resilience against climate-related risks. The Principal Secretary of the Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department, S. Suresh Kumar, underscored that these policies must emphasize public welfare, technical feasibility, and financial viability. To ensure this, he called for improved inter-agency coordination and immediate initiation of stakeholder consultations. A multi-stakeholder workshop involving urban planners, coastal management experts, industry representatives, and government agencies is planned for the month to refine the proposals. The meeting stressed the importance of timely delivery, transparency, and expert contributions in formulating policies that foster better-planned, climate-resilient cities in Andhra Pradesh’s coastal regions.
