EU updates poultry import zones for Canada and US after HPAI outbreaks

EU poultry import teams must apply updated Canada and US HPAI zone controls

Change
The European Commission amended EU poultry-entry authorisation lists to suspend imports from new HPAI-restricted zones in Canada and the United States and re-authorise certain earlier Canadian zones.
Why it matters
The Regulation changes which Canadian and US zones can supply poultry, poultry germinal products and fresh poultry/game-bird meat to the EU. Import eligibility now depends on the specific zone code, product category and outbreak-confirmation date in the amended Annex V and Annex XIV tables. Importers and border-control teams must apply the new restricted and re-authorised zone entries before accepting consignments.
Implications
  • EU poultry importers sourcing from Canada or the United States must check the amended Annex V and XIV zone entries before shipment — consignments from newly restricted HPAI zones cannot enter the Union under the updated lists.
  • Customs, border-control and veterinary-check teams must match consignments against the updated Canada and US zone codes — product eligibility depends on the listed zone, category and applicable date.
  • Poultry exporters and logistics teams in affected Canadian and US zones must update shipment planning and certification checks — previously authorised routes may be suspended, while certain earlier Canadian zones are re-authorised.
Who is affected
  • EU poultry importers sourcing from Canada or the United States
  • Border-control and veterinary-check teams handling poultry consignments
  • Poultry exporters and logistics teams in affected Canadian and US zones
What to watch
  • 14 May 2026: updated poultry-entry zone controls enter into force.
