Tamil Nadu amended the Tamil Nadu Private Schools (Regulation) Rules, 2023 to restrict private schools from organising, conducting, or facilitating political, ideological, communal, divisive, or otherwise non-educational programmes on school premises by external persons/associations/organisations.
Why Now
The government amended the Tamil Nadu Private Schools (Regulation) Rules, 2023 by adding clauses restricting certain activities in private schools. Under the new clause, school premises cannot be used during or outside school hours to organise, conduct, or facilitate any programme, meeting, campaign, instruction, or activity by any external person, association, or organisation. The restriction applies where the activity is political or ideological in nature. It also applies where the activity is communal or divisive. It further applies to activities otherwise unrelated to the educational objectives of the school.
