Cochin Shipyard wins CMA CGM LNG containership build

Cochin Shipyard signed a ~$360 million supply agreement with France’s CMA CGM to build and deliver six 1,700-TEU LNG-powered containerships, with first delivery due by February 2029.

Why it matters
The contract locks in multi-year yard capacity in Kerala through at least the early 2030s (first ship in 36 months, then two deliveries per year), tightening availability for other commercial builds. It also commits Cochin Shipyard to LNG-fuelled vessel execution at scale, which can shift its bid competitiveness for future low-emissions shipping tenders. For CMA CGM, the order adds a defined LNG-powered feeder-class capacity pipeline with a fixed delivery cadence, supporting fleet renewal planning and chartering decisions around 2029 onward.
