BMA suspends Pafuri and Giriyondo operations
Why it matters
The Border Management Authority suspended operations at the Pafuri and Giriyondo ports of entry. Pafuri Gate, approximately 30 km from the Pafuri port, is closed because of high flood water levels. Pafuri is located in the far northern Kruger National Park; Giriyondo forms part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. Kruger National Park rangers reported elevated water levels at the Luvubu River on March 15.
Implications
  • No processing of cross-border traffic at Pafuri and Giriyondo while operations remain suspended.
  • Pafuri Gate access (approximately 30 km from Pafuri port) is closed due to high flood water levels.
  • Park access routes that use these crossings through Kruger and the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park are unavailable.
Who is affected
  • Border control operators
  • Customs and immigration officers
  • Transport operators using the crossings
  • Park management and rangers
