AWS said that on Sunday morning “objects” hit a data centre in the UAE, creating “sparks and fire.” On Sunday, AWS also said it was investigating power and connectivity issues at a facility in Bahrain. On Monday, AWS confirmed drone strikes caused the outages. AWS said two UAE facilities were hit directly, and in Bahrain a nearby drone strike caused physical impacts to its infrastructure. AWS said the drones caused structural damage, disrupted power delivery, and in some cases required fire suppression activities that resulted in additional water damage.
