On 8 July 2026 the European Commission approved, on behalf of the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom), the Gibraltar Agreement between the EU/Euratom and the United Kingdom as regards Euratom Treaty matters, and set its civil-nuclear cooperation provisions to apply provisionally from 15 July 2026, subject to reciprocity.
Why it matters
The Decision concludes the Gibraltar Agreement on behalf of Euratom for matters falling under the Euratom Treaty — the Agreement's civil-nuclear cooperation provisions — and provides for their provisional application from 15 July 2026, aligned with the provisional application date for the Agreement's TFEU-related matters handled under a separate procedure. Provisional application is subject to reciprocity and pending the Agreement's entry into force. The Decision itself entered into force on adoption, 8 July 2026.
