AMLA finalises FIU-to-EPPO reporting and FIU exchange formats

FIU reporting teams must use a single EPPO reporting format and common FIU exchange templates so EPPO can process reports automatically; non-conforming reports will not be automatically processable

Change
On 3 July 2026, the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) finalised and submitted to the European Commission three standards: a single format for FIU reporting to the EPPO, a template for AMLA joint analyses, and common FIU-to-FIU exchange templates; EPPO reporting rules apply from 10 July 2027 and technical requirements including fully machine-readable reporting and full FIU.net integration follow by 10 July 2028.
Why it matters
The standards create binding format and technical requirements for FIU reporting to the EPPO and for FIU-to-FIU exchanges. From 10 July 2027 FIUs must submit EPPO reports in the agreed format; by 10 July 2028 FIUs must provide fully machine-readable reports and be integrated with FIU.net. The standards also simplify consent rules to permit faster information exchange between FIUs while retaining safeguards.
Implications
  • Financial intelligence units' reporting teams must adopt the AMLA EPPO reporting template by 10 July 2027 — failure to adopt produces reports the EPPO cannot process automatically.
  • Financial intelligence units' IT and integration teams must implement fully machine-readable reporting and full FIU.net integration by 10 July 2028 — lacking integration or machine-readable output will prevent automated EPPO intake and standardised cross-border exchanges.
  • Financial intelligence units' legal and compliance teams must align national consent handling with the simplified consent rules to enable faster FIU-to-FIU exchanges via FIU.net — without alignment FIUs will not benefit from the faster exchanges allowed by the new templates.
Who is affected
  • Financial intelligence units' reporting teams
  • Financial intelligence units' IT and integration teams
  • Financial intelligence units' legal and compliance teams
What to watch
  • Effective: 10 July 2027 — EPPO reporting rules require use of the single AMLA template for reports to the EPPO.
  • Deadline: 10 July 2028 — fully machine-readable reporting and full FIU.net integration required.
