The Department of Consumer Affairs amended the Legal Metrology GATC Rules to add petrol/diesel, CNG, LPG, LNG and hydrogen dispensers to GATC verification and fixed per-nozzle verification fees.
Why it matters
The amendment expands India's legal-metrology verification infrastructure for fuel dispensing systems. GATC operators must apply the new verification scope and fee schedule, while State Legal Metrology Departments can use state notifications to route additional weights-and-measures categories through GATCs.
Implications
- — Government Approved Test Centre operators must verify and re-verify petrol/diesel, CNG, LPG, LNG and hydrogen dispensers only within the amended Legal Metrology GATC framework.
- — GATC operators must charge ₹5,000 per nozzle for petrol and diesel dispenser verification and ₹10,000 per nozzle for CNG, LPG, LNG and hydrogen dispenser verification.
- — State Legal Metrology Departments must issue state-level notifications before additional weights-and-measures categories can be verified through GATCs under their respective Rules.
