YouTube has announced the official rollout of its likeness-detection technology to creators within the YouTube Partner Program, following a successful pilot phase. This technology allows creators to identify and request the removal of AI-generated content that utilizes their likeness, including their voice and image. The initiative is crucial in combating the misuse of creators' identities, which has become increasingly prevalent with the rise of AI-generated content. Notably, instances of misuse have included unauthorized endorsements and misinformation campaigns. To use the technology, creators must complete a verification process that includes submitting a photo ID and a selfie video. Once verified, they can view detected videos and submit removal requests. Creators have the option to opt out of the technology at any time, with YouTube ceasing scans for their likeness within 24 hours of opting out. This move aligns with YouTube's commitment to protecting creators and supporting legislation like the NO FAKES Act, aimed at addressing the challenges posed by AI-generated replicas.
