The UK Home Office said it has imposed an “emergency brake” on visas for nationals from four countries. Under the measure, the UK will end study visas for nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan. The UK will also end work visas for Afghan nationals. The Home Office linked the action to a surge in asylum claims by students on study visas. It said asylum applications by students from the four countries increased by more than 470% between 2021 and 2025.
