U.S. lifts extra tariff on Indian imports
Why it matters
The White House said President Donald Trump determined India had taken “significant steps” to address the cited national emergency and align with the U.S. on national security, foreign policy, and economic matters. The order specifies that India-origin products entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 a.m. EST on February 7, 2026 are no longer subject to the extra 25% duty imposed under Executive Order 14329. The U.S. also stated India committed to stop directly or indirectly importing Russian oil, and separately committed to a framework with the U.S. to expand defense cooperation over the next 10 years.
