The revised thresholds immediately expand the eligible pool for 2025–26 PG counselling, increasing the likelihood that vacant seats in later rounds (including mop-up) are filled by candidates with very low marks. Colleges and state counselling authorities should expect higher variance in incoming academic preparedness, which can force remediation capacity (bridge courses, supervision load) and affect clinical training throughput. For candidates, the change alters rank-to-seat conversion assumptions late in the cycle, shifting strategy toward participating through mop-up/stray vacancy rounds rather than exiting after initial counselling.
