South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has described the current situation with North Korea as 'very dangerous,' indicating that an accidental clash could occur at any moment. This warning follows more than 10 border intrusions by North Korean soldiers this year, which have prompted South Korean troops to fire warning shots. President Lee stressed the importance of engaging in dialogue with North Korea to reduce tensions. On November 17, South Korea proposed military talks to establish clear boundaries along the Military Demarcation Line to prevent armed conflicts. However, North Korea has yet to respond to this proposal. President Lee also mentioned that achieving peace with North Korea will require a long-term commitment, suggesting that once a firm peace regime is established, joint military drills with the U.S. could be reconsidered. The presence of approximately 28,500 U.S. troops in South Korea adds to the complexity of the situation.
