Why it matters
Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has made history by becoming the first airport in India to receive Level 3 Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI). This recognition underscores the airport's commitment to inclusion and accessibility. The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has worked diligently to improve accessibility, advancing from Level 1 to Level 3 in less than a year. Their 'B-Included' initiative has introduced numerous accessible facilities and digital tools. KIA also employs Persons with Disabilities in customer service roles, promoting inclusivity. The airport's efforts include implementing the UX4G Internet Accessibility Widget for better navigation and providing training programs for staff to enhance cultural awareness and sensitivity towards diverse accessibility needs.
