India’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a ₹18,662-crore twin-tube underwater road-cum-rail tunnel corridor between Gohpur and Numaligarh in Assam, including a 15.79-km tunnel under the Brahmaputra River.

The approval converts the project from proposal to funded execution, enabling tendering and contractor mobilisation to start. The 33.7-km four-lane corridor creates a new fixed crossing of the Brahmaputra, reducing reliance on ferries/bridges for road and rail movement on this route. For logistics and industrial operators around Numaligarh, it adds a higher-reliability transport option that can support tighter delivery schedules once commissioned.
