Why it matters
The Karnataka government has initiated a training program aimed at 90 women from tier 2 and tier 3 cities who have taken career breaks. This program focuses on VLSI design and embedded software, which are essential skills in the semiconductor industry. The Electronics Sector Skills Council (ESSCI) has partnered with Marvell Semiconductor to implement this initiative. Minister for IT and BT, Priyank Kharge, emphasized the importance of skilling programs to prepare a future-ready workforce and support women returning to work. This effort is part of Karnataka's mission to increase women's participation in deep-tech sectors and enhance the state's semiconductor talent pipeline. Additionally, the NIPUNA Karnataka initiative aims to skill over 4,000 youth in collaboration with corporate partners, targeting high-demand fields like AI and cybersecurity, with expectations of creating thousands of job opportunities.
