India’s Home Ministry, the Nagaland government, and the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation signed a tripartite agreement in Delhi on February 5, 2026 to create the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Nagaland Chief Minister Nephiu Rio, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah signing on behalf of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) alongside the Nagaland government and the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO). According to statements cited, the MHA will fund the territorial authority and provide support, and the arrangement is framed as a memorandum of understanding intended to address local aspirations in Eastern Nagaland.
