CPI(M) hints that action against Padmakumar will hinge on Sabarimala case outcome
Why it matters
The CPI(M) has announced that it will defer any disciplinary measures against A. Padmakumar, the former president of the Travancore Devaswom Board, who was arrested in the Sabarimala misappropriation case. CPI(M) State Secretary M.V. Govindan clarified that the party does not equate Padmakumar's arrest with a presumption of guilt. The party's future actions will depend on the investigation's trajectory. Govindan also addressed the case of another party member, P.P. Divya, who was arrested for abetting a suicide, stating that the situations are not comparable. He reiterated that the CPI(M) will not shield individuals who have violated the trust of the government. Additionally, he commented on the public outcry against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, asserting that the party's demand for his resignation aligns with their principles, despite the lack of formal charges against him.
