Bengal SSC publishes list of 'tainted' non-teaching staff of scrapped 2016 panel
Why it matters
In a significant move, the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) has published a list of around 3,500 non-teaching staff members identified as 'tainted' due to their involvement in a recruitment scam. This action follows a Supreme Court ruling from April that invalidated 25,753 appointments made during a 2016 recruitment process, which the court deemed 'vitiated and tainted.' The SSC's list includes individuals from both Group C and Group D categories, with a majority being Group D staff. As a result of this ruling, those listed as tainted will be barred from participating in any future recruitment tests. The SSC has initiated new recruitment tests to fill 2,989 Group C and 5,488 Group D positions, with applications open until early December. This development underscores the ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and integrity in the recruitment processes within the state's education sector.
