A What happened
The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has signed two important MoUs to boost Assam's inland water transport capabilities. The first MoU, with Assam Petro-Chemicals Ltd., aims to facilitate the transportation of methanol and formalin through the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route and National Waterways. This will enhance cargo movement and strengthen domestic supply chains. The second MoU focuses on developing an Urban Water Transport System in cities like Tezpur, Guwahati, and Dibrugarh. These projects are part of a broader initiative to improve regional connectivity and industrial potential in Northeast India, aligning with the Government of India's PM Gati Shakti initiative. The total investment for these projects is significant, with plans for infrastructure development and operational support from IWAI.
