Indian Navy commissions Anjadip, third indigenous anti-submarine shallow water craft
Why it matters
The Indian Navy received Anjadip, the third of eight anti-submarine shallow water crafts built indigenously by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE). The vessel, about 77 meters long and propelled by waterjets, is armed with lightweight torpedoes, indigenously developed anti-submarine rockets, and shallow-water sonar. It will enhance anti-submarine warfare, coastal surveillance, and mine-laying missions. The project is a public-private partnership effort reflecting India's push for self-reliance in defense manufacturing. The ship carries over 80% indigenous components, aligning with the national 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision.
