Andhra Pradesh permits leasing of assigned land

Assigned lands are constrained into a lease-use channel for renewable energy projects, narrowing land-use options available to assigned-landholders and setting formal administrative control over those leases.

Change
Andhra Pradesh permitted leasing of assigned lands to renewable energy companies.
Why it matters
Andhra Pradesh holds 36.36 lakh acres of assigned land. Of that, 13.62 lakh acres are identified as eligible for freehold status and 9.93 lakh acres have been converted. About 26.43 lakh acres are allocated for exclusive leasing to renewable energy companies for solar, wind, compressed biogas (CBG), and pumped storage projects. Leasing will be administered through the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) or a soon-to-be-established Rural Development Board.
Implications
  • Leasing administration will be centralized through NREDCAP or the Rural Development Board.
