Japan opens anti-dumping probe into cold-rolled steel from Korea, China and Taiwan
Importers of Korean, Chinese and Taiwanese cold-rolled steel into Japan must assess retroactive-duty exposure from the 1 June 2026 investigation initiation
- — Importers and trade-compliance teams sourcing cold-rolled steel from Korea, China or Taiwan into Japan must quantify exposure to provisional and definitive anti-dumping duties that can attach from the investigation period, or carry unhedged contingent liability on goods already in transit and contracted.
- — Procurement and sourcing teams at Japanese automotive, appliance, furniture, container, battery and steel-pipe manufacturers must identify affected supply lines and prepare alternative sourcing or price-adjustment clauses, or absorb duty costs if measures are imposed.
- — Named and unnamed exporters in Korea, China and Taiwan, and their Japanese counterparties, must respond to METI/MOF questionnaires and present evidence within the investigation timeline, or face determinations made on facts available.
