European Commission reclassifies EU restricted zones for African swine fever
Swine keepers and transport operators in reclassified areas of Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia must apply stricter movement and control conditions immediately — boundaries entered into force 30 May 2026.
- — National competent veterinary authorities in Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia must enforce the amended Annex I boundaries as the applicable restricted-zone designations under Regulation 2023/594 — failure to apply the updated classifications constitutes non-compliance with a binding EU regulation.
- — Swine keepers with holdings inside areas reclassified to restricted zone II or III must satisfy the movement and control conditions applicable to that higher zone before moving animals or products — non-compliant movements are prohibited and subject to Member State enforcement.
- — Animal transport operators moving porcine consignments into, out of, or through reclassified zones must verify compliance with the movement conditions in Regulation 2023/594 or suspend those movements — operations outside those conditions face movement bans and penalties.
