United States restricts visas for individuals supporting adversaries in Western Hemisphere

Delegation, conference and deal organisers must vet or suspend planned US travel

Al Jazeera ·
Change
United States Department of State stripped visas from 26 people and expanded visa restrictions to bar foreign nationals in the Western Hemisphere who knowingly direct, authorise, fund, or provide significant support to adversaries.
Why it matters
US visa eligibility is now conditioned on assessments that individuals have materially supported adversaries’ regional influence, asset control, or influence operations. That creates an enforceable travel barrier that blocks entry and permits revocation of existing visas for those judged to meet the new criteria.
Implications
  • International delegation, conference and deal organisers — must immediately vet and suspend scheduled US travel for invited participants who have ties to adversarial powers — otherwise those individuals will be denied entry or have visas revoked, disrupting events and negotiations.
