India approves Rs 41,534 crore P&K fertiliser subsidy for kharif 2026 season
Change
India approved a Rs 41,534 crore subsidy package for Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilisers for the 2025-26 kharif season, effective April 1–September 30, 2026, setting per-kilogram subsidy rates at Rs 47.32 for nitrogen, Rs 52.76 for phosphate, Rs 2.38 for potash and Rs 3.16 for sulphur.
Why it matters
The approval locks in fixed per-kilogram subsidy rates and a defined April–September support window, removing scope for mid-season subsidy increases. Procurement and pricing teams must therefore plan contracts, imports and retail prices around the confirmed rates rather than expecting later government adjustments.
Implications
- • Fertiliser manufacturers' procurement and pricing teams must finalise supply contracts and adjust retail-price schedules immediately to align production and margins with the fixed subsidy rates for the kharif window or risk mispricing stock.
- • Fertiliser importers' procurement and customs teams must accelerate import bookings and clearance to ensure shipments are landed and distributed during the subsidy window, or those shipments will not benefit from the kharif rates.
