India permits exports of essential commodities to Maldives for 2026-27

India's Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) permitted specified quantities of eggs, rice, sugar, river sand, stone aggregate and other essential commodities for export to the Maldives in 2026–27, exempted those consignments from existing or future export restrictions, and limited shipments to six named customs stations.
Why it matters
Suppliers of river sand and stone aggregate must obtain state environmental clearances and certify that extraction did not occur within coastal regulation zones before consignments will qualify for the Maldives quota. Logistics and export-compliance teams must track cumulative shipments against the fixed tonnage limits for each commodity because volumes above the specified quotas will not be covered by the DGFT exemption.
Implications
  • Exporters of river sand and stone aggregate must obtain and retain state-designated environmental clearances and evidence of non-CRZ (coastal regulation zone) extraction or their consignments will be ineligible for the Maldives quota.
