Malaysia declared the U.S.-Malaysia Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) null and void.
Why it matters
Malaysia's Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani stated the ART is null and void. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in February that tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) were illegal. The U.S. launched a new Section 301 review last week. The U.S. review lists electrical and electronics; oil and gas; and plantation commodities including palm oil, gloves, and other rubber-based products as key Malaysian export sectors.
